On January 20, 2023, Adam Walters taught a CLE entitled "Wills, Trusts and Estates: Key Topics for 2023" at the Savannah Bar Association's 2023 Hot Topics CLE.  His CLE included a discussion of recent legislation and case law, as well best practices for drafting Wills and war stories from probate litigation.

Adam Walters Reappointed to 4th Year on American Health Law Association's Leadership Team

The American Health Law Association announced its Presidential Appointments today.  For the 4th year in a row, Adam Walters will serve as a vice-chair of the Physician Organizations Practice Group.  For the last three (3) years, Adam has served as vice-chair focusing on publications.  In his 4th year, he will focus on educational programing.  

The Physician Organizations Practice Group has over 2,000 members from the legal community and produces educational content and legal resources on legal topics matters relating to physician practices, telemedicine, clinical laboratories, ambulatory surgery centers and other matters important to physicians.  

In the past, Adam Walters has authored or co-authored AHLA publications on the Medicare physician fee schedule, physician owned laboratories, and the opioid crisis.

Adam Walters co-authored "Legal Issues with Physician Office Laboratories" which was published as the feature article in AHLA's February 2022 Health Law Connections magazine.  The article discussed the legal issues, e.g. fraud and abuse, licensing, and medical necessity associated with Physician Office Laboratories.

Adam Walters to Teach at NBI Seminar on Georgia Probate Process and Procedure on November 1, 2021

Adam Walters has been asked to teach a 2 hour course on the Georgia probate process by NBI, Inc., a leader in professional continuing education.  The seminar will be held on November 1, 2021 and count as CLE credit for Georgia lawyers and CE credit for Georgia CPAs.  Topics will include executor duties, tips in reviewing estate planning documents, and filing procedures.

On January 29, 2021, the Savannah Bar Association will put on its annual Hot Topics Continuing Legal Education Seminar.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's event will be virtual.  

Adam Walters will be speaking on Wills, Trust, and Estates: Key Developments in the Year of COVID and Predictions.  This session will focus on legislative updates to Title 53 of the Official Code of Georgia, noteworthy cases, and possible revisions to the Federal Estate & Gift Tax.

Adam Walters to Teach a 3 Part Series on Estate Administration for NBI

Adam Walters will be teaching 3 two-hour courses on estate administration through the National Business Institute in November that will cover all topics in the probate of an estate.  

On November 16, 2020, Adam Walters will be teaching Georgia Estate Administration: Process and Procedure.  This course qualifies for 2 hours of CLE credit in Alabama and Georgia, as well as 2 hours of CE credit for CPAs.  Click here to register.

Adam Walters was selected to serve another one year term as Vice Chair - Publications for the Physician Organizations Practice Group of the American Health Law Association.  

In his role as Vice Chair, Adam solicits and guides the selection, content and publication of practice group publications including health care law bulletins, alerts, and articles to members of the practice group. 

The American Health Law Association is a 501(c)(3) educational organization with over 13,000 members dedicated to health law.  AHLA's Physician Organization Practice Group has over 2,000 members and is focused on educational issues related to physician practice groups.

Governor Brian Kemp Signs Executive Order Allowing Remote Execution of Estate Planning Documents

On March 9, 2020, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed an Executive Order which allows Attorneys and their supervised staff to remotely witness and notarize estate planning documents, including trust, wills, and powers of attorney.  In order to conduct remote signing, the following requirements must be met:  
  • ​The notary public must use real-time audio visual conference or any electronic video conferencing that allows communication via sight and sound;
  • The notary public is a licensed Georgia attorney or is acting under the supervision of a Georgia attorney;
  • The signer must show the Notary Public satisfactory evidence of identity, e.g. Georgia Driver's License, while connected on the real-time audio-visual meeting; and,
  • The notary public must be located in the State of Georgia when witnessing the signing; and,
  • The part(ies) signing the estate planning documents must send the documents to the notary public on the date the documents were executed.
